Frequently asked questions

Affirm

Affirm lets eligible customers spread a Spence purchase into Pay in 4 or monthly payments, so the ring you have in mind can fit your timing. The FAQs below cover eligibility, signing up, payments, returns and where to get help.

Affirm allows eligible Canadian customers to split Spence purchases from $50 to $15,000 into Pay in 4 or monthly payments, both online and in showrooms. Applicants must meet Affirm’s eligibility and approval requirements, including Canadian residency and age-of-majority requirements. Affirm does not charge late, prepayment, annual, or account-opening fees, although some monthly plans may include interest disclosed at checkout. Purchases remain subject to Spence’s standard return policy, with the Affirm balance adjusted based on the refund method.

FAQ

Q: How does Affirm work?

A: Affirm, formerly PayBright, is a Canadian instalment payment provider. When you use Affirm at Spence Diamonds checkout, you can split your purchase into Pay in 4 or monthly payments. To use Affirm at checkout: add items to your cart and select Affirm for orders between $50 CAD and $15,000 including taxes and shipping. Use your mobile phone number and email to set up your plan within 60 seconds, subject to eligibility and approval. Confirm your plan, and Spence will process and ship your order as usual. You will then make payments to Affirm based on your plan.

Q: Are there requirements to use Affirm?

A: Yes. You will need to be the legal age of majority where you live, be a resident of Canada, have a Canadian bank account or Visa or Mastercard debit card with the Visa or Mastercard logo, have an SMS-capable Canadian phone number and an email address, and meet the minimum cart size to use Affirm at checkout, which is $50 CAD.

Q: How do I sign up for Affirm?

A: If your basket is eligible, the option will be presented online at checkout. After confirming your phone number, you will be sent a one-time SMS password to confirm your identity. You will then enter a few details to receive a quick decision. If approved, you can set up your repayment method with Affirm and accept the terms of your plan.

Q: Can I prepay my outstanding Affirm balance?

A: Yes, anytime. There are no penalties or fees for early repayments. Customer portal: https://www.affirm.ca and help center: https://helpcenter.affirm.ca

Q: How much can I spend with Affirm?

A: Affirm payment plans are available for orders from $50 to $15,000.

Q: What does it mean to prequalify?

A: Prequalifying gives you an estimate of how much you can spend with Affirm. You do not have to use the full amount, and no payments need to be made until you actually make a purchase.

Q: Does Affirm charge interest and fees?

A: Affirm does not charge late fees, prepayment fees, annual fees, or fees to open or close your account. Depending on the size of your purchase and where you are shopping, your plan may include interest. If it includes interest, you will see the total amount of interest owed at checkout and will not be charged more than that amount.

Q: How do returns work when paying with Affirm?

A: Purchases made using Affirm are subject to Spence’s standard return policy. Returns will be processed by Spence and the Affirm balance will be reduced, cancelled, or refunded accordingly. If Spence provides a refund via a gift card or store credit, you must continue repaying the instalment plan in full.

Q: How long does it take to reverse a pending Affirm authorization?

A: Most authorizations are reversed within 24 hours; however, this is ultimately up to your financial institution and may take 5 to 10 business days to be reflected on your credit card statement.
