Metal Guide

Finding Your Perfect Metal

There are obviously many different metals you can choose from for your engagement ring. Here are the four most popular metal types to help you decide which one is best for you.

White Gold (Most Popular)

White gold uses pure gold alloyed with other white metals such as nickle and silver to produce a beautiful polish and shine. White metals provide an excellent backdrop for diamonds. As a standard, white gold rings are plated with rhodium to give it its brilliant white luster, but also because it's hypoallergenic and helps to protect the gold. White gold is typically available in 14k, 18k and 19k.

Yellow Gold (Traditional)

Yellow gold is a traditional choice for engagement rings. A mixture of pure gold, copper and silver gives yellow gold its signature warmth. Yellow gold is a striking contrast to a brilliant diamond and is typically available in 14k and 18k.

Rose Gold (Trendy)

Also known as pink gold or red gold, rose gold adds a touch of romance to your ring. If you are looking for something unique, rose gold is a great metal to choose. It's often used in bi-coloured rings to offset the more traditional white or yellow gold and is typically available in 14k and 18k.

Platinum

Platinum has a hardness, rarity and naturally white sheen that will never fade or change colour. It's also a top choice for its weight and strength, and it is naturally hypoallergenic. Platinum is an excellent metal choice for a ring that will last you a lifetime.

Gold Purity

The purity of gold is measured in karats which is measured out of a total of 24 parts; pure gold is 24 karats. However, 24k gold is extremely soft and unsuitable for jewelry as it will bend and dent very easily. The solution for this is to mix gold with other metals in a process called alloying.

  • 14K - 58.5% Pure Gold
  • 18K - 75% Pure Gold
  • 19K - 79.2% Pure Gold

Frequently asked questions

Can't find the answers you're looking for? Contact us for more help

How long does it take to make my ring?

Most rings are ready 2 weeks from the day you approve the design. Need it sooner for a proposal date? Tell us upfront and we'll let you know if it's doable before you order, not after.

Can I see the diamond and setting together before you finalize it?

Yes. You choose both in-showroom, side by side, before anything goes into production. No surprises when it arrives.

Can I make changes after I've placed the order?

Once it's in production, changes get harder. Canceling a made-to-order ring carries a $100 design cancellation fee, it doesn't work like a standard return. Contact us for more details.

What if the ring doesn't fit when it arrives?

Every made to order ring includes one free resize within a year of your purchase date.

What's your return policy on a made-to-order ring?

Standard purchases: 30 days, unaltered condition, original receipt, full refund.

Made-to-order rings: a $100 design cancellation fee applies.

Do I have to pick my own diamond, or can you help?

Either. Walk in with a number in mind, or walk in with nothing and a Diamond Consultant will show you options in the price and quality range that fits.

Is the diamond certified?

Every diamond comes with access to its GIA Facetware report, viewable yourself under a professional grading light and 10x Gemscope before you commit.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes we offer financing with no payments for 6, 12, or 18 months with approved credit or monthly plans through Affirm, Fairstone, or Flexiti.

What's covered after I buy; cleaning, resizing, insurance?

A one-year warranty against defects, free cleaning and prong checks anytime you're in a showroom.

Depending on your diamond's shape and carat weight Lifetime Protection Against Loss (one free replacement if it chips, cracks, or comes loose) plus a Lifetime Trade-Up Allowance if you want to trade up later.

I have a proposal date, can you guarantee it'll arrive in time?

We have a wide selection of rings that fit every timeline, book an appointment with us you to discuss your options!
